The first instinct for many people in business is to see Generative AI as a way to increase productivity and save money.
But there’s a difference between efficiency and effectiveness.
It will be more valuable to you in the long term if you use it to augment your team’s skills rather than outsource their tasks.
USE DATA RESPONSIBLY
You are responsible for looking after your data and your clients’ data. If you don’t, you may be breaking the law.
Many AI tools aren’t clear on how they use the information you enter. So check them against your policies.
Consider this before you start using any AI tool. But don’t use it as an excuse not to use AI at all. Acting wisely beats taking no action at all.
BE ETHICAL
The world of Generative AI is too new to have legal precedents to guide you. So, instead, you need to be guided by ethics and good old-fashioned common sense.
This includes being transparent. You should always be honest about the fact you’re using AI. If you’re doing it right, it’s not cheating; it’s smart thinking.
Have conversations with clients to ensure you comply with their own AI policies. The sooner, the better.
Support OUR EMPLOYEES
Letting your employees loose on AI without guidelines and training is unwise.
You need to clarify what they can use AI for and what they definitely shouldn’t. You need to explain your process for refining and approving AI-generated output. And you need to invest in giving them the skills to use AI effectively.
Support and guidance are vital for the effective use of AI across your teams.
ASSIGN
AI LEADERS
Implementing AI successfully takes vision and supervision.
So, it’s a good idea to assign an AI leader to take on that responsibility. They should manage a library of recommended prompts. And make sure everyone is equipped to use AI effectively.
You may need an AI leader for each team if you have a large organization.
These people will help to take this manifesto from words to actions.
Keep learning
The field of AI is changing at breakneck speed. Every week, new updates and tools are launched that could impact your business.
Your organization needs to keep up with the opportunities and issues these developments present. And you need to have a process of continual experimentation to try out new tools and refine the way you’re using existing ones.
Adopting AI isn’t a one-and-done process.
ALWAYS ADD A HUMAN LAYER
The human touch is what adds the magic to AI output.
Humans possess skills, knowledge, and judgment in a way that AIs don’t. And ultimately, humans are responsible for the output.
Humans PLUS AI is where the real value lies.
